Trans Pride Team Member Job Description

2012 Pride Toronto Festival

 

Want to be a part of planning the trans events and activiteis during Pride Week 2012?

We’re loking for enthusiastic trans and genderqueer folks to joing the Trans Pride Team

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Primary:

  • Outreach and promotion to various community groups and individuals to encourage participation in the Trans pride activities (Trans March, Rally, and Trans Space)
  • Assist Coordinators in overseeing Trans Pride activities during the festival
  • Help shaping, planning and implementing new ideas for Trans pride team and activities

Secondary:

  • Help organize and facilitate volunteer training sessions
  • Assist in updating materials (manuals, website, job descriptions, etc)
  • Help Team Leaders and members as needed

 

Time Commitment:

  • 10-15 hours per month in meetings/training/administration
  • Expected to be on-site prior to and for the duration of the Pride weekend

 

Desired Skill Set:

  • Has worked closely with and has knowledge of trans’ groups and organizations representative of all LGBTTIQQ2SA communities
  • Good conflict resolution skills and an ability to practice diplomacy
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience in social media and/or graphic design is an asset

Pride Toronto is very honoured to be supporting the Toronto Trans March 2011, and grateful to last year’s organizers and participants. For 2011, Pride Toronto will carry the torch and tradition of the 2009 first ever Trans March down Church Street!

***We encourage trans women of colour and people with different abilities to lead the march and set the pace for everyone else***

 

Location:  Norman Jewison Park ( Gloucester/Yonge)

Programming:

6-7pm Banner and Sign Making

7-8:30pm: Rally. Speakers: Alec Butler, Angie Umbac, Enza Anderson, Kate Borenstein, Morgan Page, Nik Redman, S. Bear Bergman, Syrus Marcus Ware and Trans Health Lobby Group.

8:30:  March down Church street

Trans Space

Trans Space at Pride Week 2011 will be located in the heart of the festival site, and will provide information, workshops and support to members of the Trans community, those who are questioning or simply curious. It will be a safe, inclusive and informative area and will be open for the entire Pride weekend.

Location and times:

Across the Street  from the 519 community Centre. Open 10am-8pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Changing Rooms/ All Gender washrooms available for use  inside the 519 Community Centre

11am-2pm: Banner and Sign making for Dyke March

2pm-4pm: Trans Film Nights Pride Edition ( inside the 519 community centre- Ballroom)

4:30-5:30pm:  Performances

3:30-5:30pm: Puppet Workshop and performance (Bricoteer Puppet Project)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

 

  • ID is NOT required for entry into the Pride Toronto beverage gardens. You only need to produce government issued ID if you wish to consume alcoholic beverages
  • If you have any trans-related problems at Pride(Beer gardens/Public safety),  come to Trans space and  talk to us!

 

 

ATTENTION, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRANS PRIDE 2011

At this year’s Pride Week, the Trans Pride events, spaces, and entertainment will be bigger than ever!  Volunteers are needed to help

make it all happen on the Weekend of Pride Week.

Trans identified volunteers are needed to help run Trans Space, an area in the Pride Week festival with art, entertainment, and

information from the Trans Community for the Trans Community.

Also, volunteers who are friends and allies of the Trans Community are needed as Marshals and Assistants during the Trans March.

Below are specific volunteer roles and shift times available for Trans Pride 2011.  If you are interested in volunteering, please forward

As the firs two meeting, this meeting is open to EVERYONE. We want to continue hearing your feedback and concerns about the trans march, stage, afterparty and space. We are going to focus on other important aspects as well- budget, mandate of the committee, etc.

As co-coordinators we are dedicated towards creating transparency around the organization and implementation of Trans Pride. A detailed agenda will be available before the meeting at the “Pride Toronto Trans March 2011” facebook page and blog (www.transpridetoronto.wordpress.com). Please “like” this page for up-to-date information. We will also be emailing and posting the agenda and outcome of the meeting. If you would like to be added to our mailing list please email us.

We encourage those unable to attend the meeting to offer feedback/ concerns/suggestions via email to transmarch@pridetoronto.com.

We would love to hear from trans and gender variant people about the specifics they would like to see included in Pride. We have no interest in continuing the history of tokenism and exclusion that has been the experience of the trans and gender variant community thus far. We do need your help by volunteering your ideas and time and/or being on the committee so that we can accomplish everything we as a community need and want out of the festival.

**It is mandatory for individuals attend THREE committee meetings to become a Committee Member** Committee members can vote at Pride Toronto general meetings.

Call Out for Performers and Workshop Facilitators

The Pride Toronto Trans Pride committee  is looking for trans/gender variant performers and workshop facilitators for:

– Transparency ( Trans March Afterparty):  Friday, July 1st ( 10-2am) .

– Trans Space: Saturday and Sunday, July 2nd and 3rd( Noon-8pm).  Trans Space will be a mix of resources, performances and workshops.

And

– Trans programming throughout Pride week ( June 27-July 3rd).

We welcome a diverse line-up and encourage Trans/Gender variant people from all ages, ethnocultural backgrounds, abilities and sexual orientations to apply.

Allies are welcome to apply, however preference will be given to people who identify within the trans/gender variance spectrum.

All kinds of performances are welcome- spoken word, dance, music, drag, videos, visual arts, performance art, djs…just to name a few. We are looking for workshops on a broad range of topics- that is, workshops do not have to directly address gender or trans issues.

Performers and facilitators will receive an honoraria.
